Friday we woke up and began separating items to fill teh backpacks for our kids. That was a HUGE undertaking. It took most of the day to get this task completed. All of the kids received clothes and other stuff. Next year teenage girl clothes and PJ's for all would be great.
Sunday we went to Bishop's church in Matero and his sermon was awesome. It was encouraging for hinm to preach not to be fearful but to walk in the truth that God is going to take care of us. God has us covered and will ALWAYS TAKE care of us. Then we headed shopping for gifts and internet
It is Thursday morning in Lusaka, Zambia. Woke up 630 am and most of the team walked the kids to school. They love it when walk them. They attend two different schools and half of the kids go in the morning and the other half in the afternoon. Most of the kids get up and walk even though they don't have to be to school til later. It is about a half hour walk each way down dirt roads with cars speeding past shuffling dirt into the air If the kids are late to school and the doors are closed they will not let the kids in and send them back to the village. One day one of the schools was closed due to the death of one of the teachers spouses dying. So the kids were sent home.
We have been doing so much with the kids. Saturday we had a bbq. Givens the repair man got the bbq working and told the woman on our team just a little coal well they put a lot and the bbq got to hot., They started to cook and burned many sausages. It was comedy listening to the three woman trying to grill and hearing one of them say too many cooks in the kitchen. I personally thought the fisticuffs were a coming. All of the families were able to eat sausage rice and beans. The house moms made the beans and they were the best!!!!
Last night we received news that the housemoms had both lost a family member. A son in law and then a 21 month old Loveness lost a son in law and mercy lost a grandson. It was heart wrenching to see these two women having to go through this. We were able to pray for the house moms and we are helping around the houses since they are not here. In Zambia death is very rampant as you drive and see trucks carrying 40-60 people who are going or coming from a funeral. Not one of the children at this village has not not been touched by a relative dying. It is heartbreaking.
Lots of stuff has been going on with the kids. The girls had spa day and they loved it. Diane was painting intricate flowers on the toenails. Colleen was doing the girls make up. Alicia was doing hair and did a great job . The picture of nora's hair was alicia's fine work. Myself, Kareen, and Judy took the boys to hit baseballs while the girls were spaing. I am sure that is a surprise to all of you. We also tried to teach them how to do kickball. They somewhat understood
We made cupcakes and let a few of the younger kids lick the bowl. They weren't sure at first but Colleen and I ate some and then they tried. Like any kid would they went for it and they loved it.
Today July 14th the chickens laid their first 2 eggs. Wohoo the kids will be eating even better than before. As to what the kids eat scones, fritters (Like donuts), shima, rice, beans fresh chickens and I mean fresh and have tea as well.
Nathaniel is the real hit he is teaching all of the kids how to dance I think a couple of the girls have their eyes on him. He has been so patient with Robinno a young man in a wheelchair who has muscular dystrophy. He has been teaching him how to use legos.,
Mai has been teaching the kids how to sew and the housemoms too. She has been teaching the kids english and helping with the homework too. At night she brings movies to the kids sometimes Ted even makes popcorn.
Amy has been hard at work taking tons of pictures walking the kids to take pictures and letting the kids pick which pictures they want. They love being part of the process
As for me since this is MY blog I am well. I am completely grateful that My Heavenly Father would send me to Zambia to be his ambassador. His hands and His feet to pour the love of Christ into these children. They Are opened armed and willing to receive as well as give us love back. To love someone who is unloved is a great thing. I am blessed to be a part of what God is doing. .
